Breaking the Cycle: How CEOs and Mom Entrepreneurs Can Gain Clarity and Control

Professional Woman Posing in Blue

Have you ever felt like you're just spinning your wheels in your business, jumping from one task to the next? I see this often with the CEOs and mom entrepreneurs I work with. This whirlwind of activity, where everything seems equally important, can leave us overwhelmed and unfulfilled.

It's a cycle many of us fall into unconsciously. We know there are countless tasks to be done to move our business forward, and delegating can feel like it takes more time than just doing it ourselves. But this mindset keeps us stuck, juggling endless to-dos and losing sight of our role as leaders.

Even experienced entrepreneurs, some in business for over 20 years, struggle with this. They hold onto tasks out of guilt or fear of delegating, essentially becoming employees in their own companies. Today, I want to give you clarity on what you should be doing as a CEO and share my system for gaining control and moving forward with intention.

If you feel like you're just surviving, overwhelmed, and unable to delegate, this message is for you. There are many moving parts in a business, and more clients mean more pressure and problems. We can't eliminate problems, but we can control how we respond to them and set up our teams for success.

As the founder and CEO, you need time outside of your daily operations to think strategically and plan for your bigger vision. It's essential to stop doing things just for the sake of doing them and evaluate if they're aligned with your long-term goals.

Personal fulfillment and happiness are crucial for your success. Your business should not drain you to the point where you can't be present with your loved ones or take care of yourself. Your happiness should be a filter for all business decisions, from structuring your offers to leading your team.

Recently, my father-in-law, who ran a successful company for years, shared some simple but powerful advice: Have a good product, maintain it, and prioritize communication with customers. Maintaining a good product requires paying attention to your energy and capacity, and continuous learning and innovation. Good customer communication and experience stem from how we treat people, which reflects how we feel about ourselves.

Here’s how you can be more clear on your actions as a CEO. Focus on four main areas:

1. Building relationships

2. Client/customer experience

3. Team culture

4. Big vision work.

Audit your to-dos and ensure they align with these buckets. If they don't, delegate or delete them.

Use the 4 Ds to maximize your productivity and prioritize your time: Do, Delay/Defer, Delegate, and Delete. Brain dump your tasks and categorize them. Only keep tasks in your “Do” list that align with your main areas of focus. Delegate the rest, empowering your team and creating space for yourself to lead effectively.

By focusing on what truly matters and delegating the rest, you can break the cycle of overwhelm and step into your role as a visionary leader.
