The Art of Building Your Business In Person
Updated: Jul 25, 2022
We’ve become spoiled, lazy and entitled. Yup, I said it.
Driving to CEO Power Hour this morning I thought about how in person networking events were how businesses grew before we had social media.
Face to face conversations and building relationships, being scared that you wouldn’t know anyone and showing up anyway.
Shaking hands with strangers and exchanging business cards hoping you’ll find something to break through the small talk.
Going OUT INTO THE WORLD to create change. And now it’s become less rare, simply because we don’t HAVE to.
You can “make millions from your phone”…
Build a whole business without ever leaving your house…
And it’s fucking amazing. But also turned us into anti-social shells of human beings. People that expect others to hire us because we post good content.
Doing “lead generation” and pretending like you actually care about that person's “cute kids” on the other side. So why would you expand off these apps if you don’t have to?
Why would you put down your phone and look up and out into the world when you can never leave the comfort of your own home? Here’s the truth…
Because there’s another whole existence waiting for your gifts out there.
There are people in your neighborhood and local community that would love your insights, perspective and services. And because your soul needs real depth and connection, more hugs and handshakes.
I’m inviting you to see bigger than this social media tunnel. I get it, it’s easy to stay here and connect with people all over the world… but don’t forget your neighbors need you too.
Because even if you don’t believe you will have the same impact with those in your local community, or during in-person events, I know that you do. And deep down I think you know that too.
Don’t just open the doors for people to find you, but walk through those doors yourself. You never know what room you will end up in that needs YOUR perspective, YOUR expertise, or YOUR energy.
And at the end of the day, we know that feeling. The feeling of being truly filled up from the people we have surrounded ourselves with? Unmatched. There is nothing better for the soul than to be with your people.
